I AM Learning Partnership
Irvington School is fortunate to have a long-standing partnership with Arnerich Massena, a local financial consulting firm of about 60 employees. In an effort to support its community and help close the achievement gap, Arnerich Massena established the I AM Learning Partnership in 1995. The partnership provides Irvington students who are underperforming in critical skills with free, year-round academic intervention and support. The I AM Learning Partnership employs two full-time coordinators to administer the various programs and provide instruction. Additionally, Arnerich Massena’s dedicated employees provide over 1,200 volunteer hours annually at Irvington School to help students succeed academically and build positive self-images. Thanks to the generous funding of Arnerich Massena, all I AM Learning Partnership programs are free to Irvington students.
Before-school Reading Club
This program offers one-on-one tutoring to elementary students who are not meeting Oregon State literacy benchmarks. Program coordinators train and supervise Arnerich Massena employee volunteers for weekly tutoring sessions with Irvington students. Emphasis is on elevating foundational literacy skills, as well as increasing motivation and confidence.
Before-school Math Club
This program offers one-on-one or small group tutoring to elementary students who are not meeting Oregon State math benchmarks. Program coordinators train and supervise Arnerich Massena employee volunteers for weekly tutoring sessions with Irvington students. Tutoring sessions focus on developing fundamental math skills and problem-solving strategies, as well as improving confidence and engagement.
Literacy Support Program
The I AM Learning Partnership provides funding/staffing of two trained professionals to implement small-group direct instruction to students not meeting Oregon State literacy benchmarks in kindergarten through 3rd grade. The partnership works closely with the school district, Irvington administration, and classroom teachers, to align its instruction with district-wide literacy goals and classroom content.
This program is offered to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Homework Club provides Irvington students with a quiet workspace with the resources and support needed to understand and complete their classroom homework assignments. This program is staffed by the partnership coordinators and Arnerich Massena employee volunteers.
Girls’ Club is a mentorship and enrichment program for students in grades 4th-6th. Common themes include character and friendship-building, anti-bullying efforts, healthy living, and community service projects. We aim to promote independent-thinking young women with high self-esteem and self-worth.
Math & Science Club
This after school program builds fundamental skills in the areas of math and science for 3rd and 4th grade students. Through various hands-on experiments, engaging activities, and occasional field trips centered on math and science, the I AM Learning Partnership hopes to elevate academic performance, interest, and motivation in these subject areas.
Each summer, the I AM Learning Partnership offers 6-8 weeks of academic and extracurricular programs to underperforming and underserviced students. Volunteer opportunities for middle school students are also available. Camp themes vary each summer but generally support district-wide goals in literacy, math, and science.
