* Irvington has a new afterschool music program operated by Chris Gabriel from Musik Haus – the same excellent instructor teaching our daytime music enrichment program. Since this is a new offering and we are very excited about the program, PTA wants to help make this available to more families. The PTA has a budget of $1000 to help subsidize this music program for the winter 2012 session.
The price of the class is $100 per student, however, you can use the following guidelines to choose a sliding scale fee. This is based on the honor system (Musik Haus will manage all fees confidentially): Income below $50,000 – $50 per student; income between $50,000-$75,000 – $75 per student; $75,000 and above income – $100 fee. Families who qualify for free and reduced lunch also qualify for our existing scholarship program. See the flyer from Musik Haus for class descriptions.
**If you have taken art classes with Gayle Steinberger in the past, she is contacting former students and those on her previous waiting lists for Spring Art Classes. If you have questions, you can email her at: steiny@musician.org.
The PTA provides scholarships for ALL fee-based extracurricular activity offered at Irvington. All students who qualify for free or reduced lunches also qualify for PTA Scholarships. Scholarship forms are available in front of the office.
Please note: Some classes may have a minimum number of students requirement. The schedule above is for new classes; Spanish, Chess & Go Club, MUSE, and Arnerich Massena classes continue throughout the year. If you have any activities you would like to see at the school, please contact Rachel Carlson at rachelabra@msn.com.
We’ve also included the flyers for each additional class separately below:

If you have ideas for activities you would like to see offered, please contact the after-school activities coordinator, Rachel Carlson, at rachelabra@msn.com. Several of our programs depend on volunteers. Visit the Get Involved page for more information on volunteer opportunities.
Arnerich-Massena’s After-school Programs
Arnerich Massena (our local business partner) provides even more opportunities for Irvington students to thrive and learn. Arnerich Massena provides the staffing and funding for tutoring groups, a Girl’s Club focusing on service, Homework Club, and Math/Science Club. In addition, Arnerich Massena sponsors Math/Science and Journalism summer camps. Irvington students are indeed fortunate to have such a wonderful partner! Participation in Arnerich Massena programs is determined by teacher referral. Click here for more information.
PTA Scholarships for After-school Programs
The PTA provides scholarships for all fee-based extracurricular activities offered at Irvington. Scholarship forms are available in the front of the school office.
Maurice Lucas Sports Academy
Irvington is excited to host the Maurice Lucas Sports Academy, a free after school program for middle schoolers that meets twice per week and uses basketball to teach character development and organizational skills. At the end of the program the students will take a field trip to Oregon State. And, as a bonus, the Program Director is former Irvington PE teacher Karen Barker.
Safety Patrol
Irvington has a student safety patrol which is stationed at the Brazee/14th and Thompson/14th intersections before and after school. Fifth graders may volunteer for safety patrol and are trained by visiting Portland police officers. Safety patrol is a year-long commitment capped by a trip to Oaks Park at the end of the school year. Contact: Billy Nee, bnee@pps.net.
